Run the Bed Level Test Print Utility

Note: The print head will become hot during the printing process. Exercise caution when working near the nozzles.

An out-of-level print bed can cause even simple prints to fail. The Bed Level Test Print diagnostic utility should be used in conjunction with the Laser Bed Level (recommended) or Shim Bed Level routines. After using the Laser Bed Level utility, the Test Print provides optional visual confirmation. However, it is essential to run this test print after every instance of shim bed leveling. If the disks come back very stringy, very thin, or inconsistent in thickness, rerun the Laser Bed Level routine or contact Markforged Support.

  1. Clean your print bed and apply glue as shown in the picture below. Install the print bed.

  2. Select the menu icon from the dashboard.

  3. Select the Utilities tile from the available options.

  4. Select the Test Prints tile from the available options.

  5. Select the Bed Level Test Print tile.

  6. Evaluate your test print disks to see if your bed needs to be adjusted. Compare your results with each of the example disks below.
    Note: For more information, please see Level the Print Bed.
    Note: Test print procedure using Nylon White is the same as Onyx test print procedure. If you run this test print with Tough Nylon, it may be difficult to compare the resultant disks with the Onyx disks below. In that case, if the test print comes out clear or transparent, then your bed is correctly leveled. If parts of the test print are white or uneven, then your bed needs to be leveled.

Evaluate the Test Print

Compare the results of your print to the following images below. If your disks indicate improper leveling, rerun the Laser Bed Level utility.

  • Uniform and solid: Well-leveled

  • Stringy material or the lines don't connect completely to the outer circle: Bed low

  • Flattened or overly pressed down: Bed high

  • Inconsistently or not entirely laid down: Bed very high
